Re-Educating & Re-Using to make a smart and conscious fine jewellery purchase.

With the increasing number of jewellery brands out there, the endless options and information can get cluttered and confusing. No matter who you buy your fine jewellery from, it is extremely important to know your basics and to ask the right questions. First and foremost, know the diamond 4C’s; Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat  Apart from these there are small tips and tricks to know more about your jewellery purchases.

Re-Educating you with some #DiAiTips:

1. Hallmark and Certification-

Hallmark on your gold jewellery lends credibility to the purity of gold. Its triangular stamped symbol indicates an official assurance by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Hallmarked jewellery is much easier to sell since the buyer is assured of the quality. Make sure to check if your jewellery is Hallmarked before purchasing any 14kt, 18kt or 22kt piece.

2. Gold Colour-

Gold colour comes in Yellow, Rose and White. The purity and cost for all three are always the same. The only difference is in the alloy composition, i.e. for 18kt gold; there is 75% pure gold and 25% alloys. White gold uses zinc, rose gold uses copper, and yellow gold uses a mix of zinc and copper, as its alloy composition to gain its colour. Rose Gold is an increasingly popular and modern jewellery buy, at present. Its gorgeous pink look is attained by the alloy component of copper mixed in the casting process. This makes it a VIRGIN rose gold piece. There are many products out there which use rose gold plating at the end of the jewellery process. This gives a temporary rose look but tarnishes over time. At DiAi Designs we only use pure virgin Rose Gold making it durable with an everlasting gold shine that remains forever.
Next time you’re buying a rose gold jewellery piece, remember to ask if it’s plated or virgin rose gold.

3. Gold Purity-

We often get asked why we only make our jewellery in 10kt, 14kt or 18kt gold and not 22kt or even 24kt gold. The reason is simple, gold as a metal is very soft in its rawest form, i.e. in 22kt (91.67% pure gold) or 24kt (99% pure gold). Hence to stud diamonds or stones, the gold needs to be stronger. The 10kt, 14kt and 18kt purities are composed with higher alloys making it more durable and suitable to wear regularly. Next time you’re buying diamond jewellery in 22kt gold, we recommend not to go for it, as they will bend and lose their shape soon after!

4. Diamond Hardness-

Lab-grown or mined, the depth, brilliance and fire of a real diamond is for real! When seen up-close, a real diamond reflects its surroundings, whilst a fake is seen through. A real diamond is the hardest stone in the world! To test the hardness of your diamond, rub sandpaper on the diamond, if it looks duller and has scratches, it’s fake, if not, it’s the real deal!

5. Diamond number-

Solitaire diamonds are bigger, better and more expensive too. It is essential to be sure about what the cut, colour, clarity and carat you are buying. To know your solitaire, use a magnifying glass to view the engraving on the diamond’s girdle and match with the solitaire’s certificate number. This authenticates the diamond used in your solitaire piece. Next time you purchase a 0.90ct + size from us, look for this yourself!
The packaging your online jewellery pieces come in can go to waste, but what if we showed you the correct way to re-use them instead?

Re-Using with some #DiAiTips:

1. DiAi Box to avoid Tangling-

Fine jewellery is one of your best investments, but taking care of them is also important. Cautiously storing jewellery improves the longevity of the piece and allows you to wear it for years! Always make sure that you lock the necklaces before storing them in the box to avoid entanglement. Store them in the DiAi box and put the chains in the hook which is provided behind. If you don’t have this, simply store them in a ziplock bag with part of the lock and chain hanging out.

2. Certificate Pouch-

With every DiAi purchase comes a certificate pouch.. Keep your certificates safe in them or use them as a multi-purpose pouch. We love to keep our phone chargers in them to carry around on-the-go.

3. Online jewellery shipping box-

If you’re an avid online shopper, you know the guilt of throwing away all those cardboard boxes. Here are ways to minimize that waste and make the most of your shipping boxes.
Whilst the DiAi Designs shipping boxes are already made from recycled cardboard, we wouldn’t mind recycling them further. Add a partition in between, and organise your daily essentials to store in the cupboard or carry as a travel box.

4. Thank You Card-

With every online purchase you usually receive a Thank You card. At DiAi Designs, we make these with seed paper, to utilize instead of trashing them. Simply, place the card inside some fertile soil, either in a pot or outdoors. place it under sunlight, and water daily. Wait for a couple of weeks, for some beautiful basil!

We hope these #DiAiTips for Re-Educating and Re-Using can help you in making a more conscious fine jewellery purchase. For any further assistance, you can always reach out to us on +91 8879104790 or press@diaidesigns.com
